Gebosun® RS485 Smart Street Light Solution

The Gebosun® RS485 Smart Lighting Solution is the gold standard for projects where wireless instability is not an option. By utilizing dedicated shielded data cables for communication, this system creates an unbreakable link between your management center and every LED street light. It is specifically engineered for tunnels, heavy industrial zones, and high-density urban environments where electromagnetic interference (EMI) disrupts wireless signals.

Why Choose RS485 Smart Street Light Solution?

Unmatched Stability: Unlike wireless systems susceptible to weather or radio frequency interference, RS485 provides a physical, shielded connection, ensuring 100% command execution reliability.
Long-Distance Capability: The standard transmission range is robust, and with the addition of our Signal Control Units (Repeaters), the communication distance can be extended up to 3 km, perfect for long bridges or highway tunnels.
High-Volume Management: The concentrator gathers signals from hundreds of lights and transmits them to the Gebosun patent SCCS (Smart City Control System), enabling centralized operations for thousands of fixtures efficiently.

Core System Components

Signal Controller (Repeater): A critical device linked between the concentrator and Lamp Controllers (LCU) to boost and regenerate the RS485 signal, preventing data loss over long distances.
Centralized Concentrator: The"Brain"of the local network, collecting data and managing strategies.
Lamp Controller: Connects directly to the LED driver to execute dimming (0-10V/PWM) and switching commands.

Ideal Applications

Tunnels & Underpasses: Where GPS and wireless signals are blocked by concrete and earth.
Airports & Factories: Environments with massive radio interference that would scramble 4G/LTEorLoRa-MESH signals.
Critical Infrastructure: Areas requiring guaranteed uptime and control security.

FAQs About RS485 Smart Street Lighting

Why use a wired RS485 solution instead of a wireless one like LoRa?
Wired RS485 is chosen for reliability in harsh environments. Wireless signals can be blocked by obstacles (like in a tunnel) or jammed by other electronic equipment (in factories). RS485 uses a dedicated cable, guaranteeing that control signals reach the light regardless of the environment.

Does this solution require special cabling?
Yes. Unlike PLC (which uses power lines), RS485 requires a separate twisted-pair data cable (typically shielded 2-core wire) to be installed between street lights. This ensures the data path is clean and separated from high-voltage power noise.

How many lights can be connected in one RS485 loop?
A single RS485 bus typically supports up to 32 devices directly. However, by using Gebosun’s Signal Controllers (Repeaters), you can expand this capacity significantly, connecting hundreds of lights to a single Centralized Concentrator without signal degradation.

Can I dim the lights with this system?
Absolutely. The RS485 Lamp Controller sends dimming signals (0-10V or PWM) to the LED driver. You can set automated schedules via the SCCS platform, such as dimming lights to 50% in tunnels during the night to save energy.

What happens if the communication cable is cut?
The system features Fault Detection. If the cable is cut, the SCCS platform will instantly show a"Communication Loss"alarm for all downstream lights, helping maintenance crews pinpoint exactly where the break occurred on the map. Additionally, the lights will revert to their default"Safe Mode"(usually 100% on) to ensure safety until repairs are made.
